A Major Roof Leak Forced the Family to Move Out
A major roof leak had caused serious flood damage inside this Darlinghurst home.
The ceiling was cracked and badly damaged by water. The damage was so serious that the family had to move out, leaving the home empty while urgent work was carried out.
Every new downpour brought the risk of more water getting inside and making the damage even worse.

Leaves and Dirt Were Stopping Water From Draining Away
When we checked the roof, we found leaves and dirt built up across the roof and gutter area.
The build-up was stopping rainwater from draining away as it should. Instead of flowing away safely, water could collect and move towards parts of the home that needed to stay dry.
With the ceiling below already badly damaged, the roof and gutter area needed to be cleared before more rain arrived.

Clearing and Flushing the Roof and Gutter Area
The roof and gutter clearing work involved removing the leaves and dirt from the area.
After clearing the larger build-up, we flushed the area with water. This removed smaller pieces of dirt and allowed us to check that water could flow away properly again.
Our team worked across the area until the visible leaves and dirt had been removed and the gutter area was clear.

Helping Protect the Home From More Water Damage
Once the clearing and flushing were complete, we checked the roof and gutter area again.
Our final checks showed that:
- the visible leaves and dirt had been removed
- the roof and gutter area had been flushed
- water had a clearer path away from the roof
- the work area had been left clean
- the risk of more water building up had been reduced
Clearing the area helped protect the already damaged home from more water.
If the build-up had been left there, the next heavy downpour could have sent even more water through the ceiling and caused far more damage inside. With the ceiling already cracked and weakened, more water could have caused part of it to give way and fall into the room below.
