Recent Job: Replacing a 20-Year-Old Hot Water System in a North Bondi Apartment

Service: Hot Water System Replacement
Location: North Bondi, Sydney

No Hot Water From a System Over 20 Years Old

The Rinnai Infinity system at a North Bondi home had stopped supplying hot water.

The continuous-flow gas hot water system was more than 20 years old. The outside case and connections also showed clear signs of age and wear.

A continuous-flow system heats water when a tap is turned on instead of storing it inside a tank. When this unit stopped working, the home was left without hot water.

The old system needed to be removed and replaced.

Removing the Old Rinnai Infinity System

We first turned off the services connected to the old hot water unit.

The old Rinnai Infinity system was then disconnected from the gas, water and pipe connections so it could be removed safely.

The unit had been in place for more than 20 years and showed rust and wear around its outside case and lower connections.

Installing the New Rinnai Infinity System

The replacement system and installation materials were supplied through Reece Australia.

We installed a new Rinnai Infinity continuous-flow gas hot water system in place of the old unit.

New copper pipework, fittings and shut-off valves were fitted below the system. These connections carry the water and gas needed for the unit to work. The valves also allow each service to be turned off when needed.

Once the new system and pipework were connected, we checked the joins and connections before putting the unit into service.

Hot Water Restored With a New System

We tested the new Rinnai Infinity system to make sure it was operating as it should.

Our final checks confirmed that:

  • the new continuous-flow gas hot water system was installed
  • the new copper pipework, fittings and valves were complete
  • the system was operating correctly
  • hot water had been restored to the home
  • the old Rinnai Infinity system had been replaced

The home was left with a new Rinnai continuous-flow system ready to supply hot water when the taps were turned on.

Replacing the old unit also removed the risk of the household being left without hot water while the ageing system continued to fail.
