Recent Job: High-Access Gutter and Downpipe Replacement at a Vaucluse Home

Service: Roof Plumber & Repairs
Location: Vaucluse, Sydney

Guttering High Above a Narrow Side Area

A section of guttering along the side of a Vaucluse home needed to be replaced.

The gutter sat high above a narrow area between the home and the boundary. Air-conditioning equipment and existing pipes below made access more difficult.

A new downpipe was also needed to carry roof water from the gutter to the rainwater tank.

Reaching the High Gutter Line

We used long extension ladders to reach the gutter line.

The ladders were placed along the side of the home so our plumber could reach the high work area. We then removed the section being replaced and installed the new guttering.

The narrow space below meant the work needed careful planning from the ground up.

Installing the New Downpipe

We prepared new 90 mm downpipe sections for the side of the home.

The downpipe and brackets were painted to suit the outside wall. We then joined the pipe sections and used bends to guide the downpipe from the gutter line.

Brackets held the pipe firmly against the wall. The lower pipework was connected to the rainwater tank to complete this part of the home’s roof drainage system.

Roof Water Directed to the Rainwater Tank

The completed work included:

  • replacing the required section of guttering
  • installing a new 90 mm downpipe
  • painting the downpipe to suit the home
  • securing the pipe to the outside wall
  • connecting the downpipe to the rainwater tank

The new gutter and downpipe now give roof water a clear path to the tank.

By completing the work, the homeowner avoided the risk of heavy rain spilling down the outside wall or collecting in the narrow area below. This could have caused dampness, damaged the exterior and allowed water to enter the home.
